Maui’s most prominent feature is Mt. Haleakala,
reaching more than 10,000 feet into the sky. Haleakala is the
largest dormant volcano in the world and Maui’s main visitor
attraction. From up here the sunrise views are simply amazing, truly
a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The surroundings will make you feel
like you’re on the moon, rather than on a tropical island. There are
many cinder cones and the ground looks like as one would imagine a
planet in outer space.
“The Valley Isle,” how Maui is nicknamed, has a lot more to offer
besides its dormant volcano. As its nickname implies, there are many
lush valleys, tropical rainforests and waterfalls that plunge down
from high sea cliffs into crystal clear pools. The famous Road to
Hana on Maui’s north coast is a must-see. It’s one of the most
scenic coastline roads in the world, so certainly a road trip that
you’ll always remember.
Kaanapali Beach, a three-mile-long white sand beach is another
popular Maui attraction. If you love water activities you can take a
boat ride out to the little offshore island of Molokini, one of the
best diving locations in the world. Or visit Lahaina, an ancient
whaling town. Here you can have a relaxing stroll at the scenic
harbor, wave to the sailing ships going in and out and explore
Lahaina’s numerous small museums and antique stores.
